Day 12: Bye Bye, Guangzhou, Hello Hong Kong

When we woke up we took a leisurely time eating breakfast for our last buffet and I took some time to take videos of it. :) I got my last glass of black soybean milk. Then we explored the garden a little including the two waterfalls. They had steps to it that we didn’t take and some precarious looking overlooks that were wisely under construction. I did take probably what was not an official path to get Bailor as close as possible to where the water was falling so he could feel the spray though. What’s life without a few off the path adventures :-) We had arranged to have van transportation to Hong Kong. Our options were that or train and the benefit of this was not going to have to go through customs at the train station. It was totally worth it. It was about a 2hour drive. We saw lots of China’s countryside and learned as many tricks as possible for keeping Bailor occupied. There were some concerns where the car was stalling a little, but it seemed to be able to continue on and the driver explained that it had driven through water earlier and hydroplaned and the sensor was off. Customs was very interesting where we were in van and they opened all the doors. Each person was read with a laser thermometer sensor on the forehead. We had already handed all our passports and paperwork to the driver so he handled all that part which was totally worth it. After a quick refueling we were back on the road and in Hong Kong. The sun was setting as we arrived and circled the city skyline nestled in the mountains and water. It was pretty neat looking and the main view we had of downtown as our destination was Hong Kong Disneyland! It was neat as we entered the island where only the only things on it are the airport and Disney resort, making it convenient for our departure. It was a beautiful area of mountains surrounded by the sea and other water. We were staying at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hollywood Hotel. We were excited as we saw the familiar signs with Mickey and Minney on them welcoming us to the Hong Kong Disney resort. We wanted one day as a family post adoption procedures, but before reentering the real world. :-) We arrived with a quick departure from the van and into the heavily art deco themed hotel. It was a relief to get there. We checked in and got our stuff to our room and then quickly came down the elevator where Mickey announced the floors. What came next was about the best buffet I’ve ever seen. We checked in to Chef Mickeys and found a buffet full of Chinese favorites with as much Disney theming as possible and all delicious. Mickey shaped things were just the beginning as we had a full buffet of interesting Asian options. In the desserts category you could choose between green tea yoda cookies and Darth Vader and Storm Trooper panna cottas and other character related steam buns. This one also required a video. Bailor enjoyed the variety and having his own water glass with a straw. They had special mickey plates and cup and silverware for him. He accidently spilled it and someone was there almost immediately to get new placemats in place. It was all quite impressive and I only wish I could have eaten more of it, but we got our money’s worth, especially since Bailor was free. He was really enjoying the ice cream as well. :-)
